Adoption Application

Thank you for your interest in Basset Hound Rescue. The first step to the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application via our web site. The application will come to us through our email and we will then contact you for a preliminary phone interview and to check your references. The one thing that we want you to know is that our process is not quick. We take our time with the screening, checking references and most importantly, the home visit.

Please understand that it is very important to fill out the adoption application in detail and provide names and phone numbers of your veterinarian and local animal control officers. Please also give your veterinarian permission to speak with us.  Some people get frustrated with our process but the way we look at it is this is the dog’s second chance and we have to be sure that the dog and humans will be a good match.

We look forward to receiving your application. Please let us know if you have any questions.

**If you experience any problems with the application form below, please notify us with a detailed account of the issue you’ve encountered at this address:

**Please fill out an adoption application ONLY if you have made the decision to adopt a new family member. A lot of time is spent screening applications, doing home visits and checking vet references. We request that you only submit an application AFTER you have made the decision to adopt and hold off if you — or any family members– are just in the initial ‘thinking’ stage of adoption. We only adopt to families living in New England — all of our volunteers are located in New England.**

Adoption Donation: $550 for dogs ages 0 to 2 years old, $350 for dogs from 2.1 to 8 years old, and $250 for dogs over 8.1 years old.

To families with very young children: Please be aware that we get very few bassets that are suitable for placement with children under 5 years old. We will only place bassets that have previously lived with young children into homes with children under the age of five. Many of our dogs come to us as strays and we have limited knowledge of their background. Therefore, we can not feel confident as to how they will react to living with infants/toddlers.
